Day 31 ~ WALLPAPER-A-DAY "Moses Harris"

Moses Harris (1730-1788)

This wallpaper requires a bit of personal history and more photos than my usual post.

The story starts with Lena Fransioli’s great uncle, in 1830. The Reverend John McVickar S.T.D., was professor of moral and intellectual philosophy at Columbia College from 1817-1857. Upon his retirement, Columbia presented him with The Aurelian or, Natural History of English Insects, Moths and Butterflies, London 1778. This beautiful, first edition book was passed down to my wife and it gave me 45 original botanicals by Moses Harris, an artist, naturalist and scientific thinker.

High resolution reproductions of the botanicals in this book are available in many sizes and configurations as individual prints or giclée wallpaper with each plate up to 22” x 25”. We print them on fine art etching paper and deliver your print or wallpaper within two weeks of acceptance of sample.

We recently did two custom jobs with this paper for Tucker & Marks in San Francisco. It was very important that the panels fit corner to corner with no wrapping of the art. They provided detailed elevations and I worked very hard to make sure the panels fit perfectly on every wall. No photos of the install are available at this time but if any become available in the future, I will post them.

The install was done by Phil McDonald of The Precisionists. Phil said, "The panels were sublime and the client was thrilled". Thank you Phil, for a great job.

Here are 42 of the 45 plates.

Brass Herald (DE4242)

This brass herald has a maximum size of 10.5” x 18” and the glazed background repeat is 43.5” x 73” max. We like it best at a 60% repro size, which makes the herald 6.5” x 11” (pictured here).

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Another stunning pearlescent reproduction of the “Mother of Pearl” in an abalone shell. It looks pretty fantastic printed on mylar! The max repeat size is 45”w x 53.5”h but I prefer it at 20% with a 10.75” x 8.75” repeat.

Day 25 ~ WALLPAPER-A-DAY "Paradise Lost"

Elven Paradise

A few years ago we were asked to paint a mural on canvas for a Wiccan meeting room in New Hampshire. The canvas was 25’ long our amazing wallpaper installer, Greg Kahler of PHD (Paper Hanging & Design), ended up choosing to cut it into three pieces rather than get a “crew” to install it. The 2 seams are completely invisible.

The wall covering resulting from that original mural is stunning, especially when printed on “metallic canvas”. The mural measures 23’ 7” x 9’ 2”, however we can size it for your specific application.

If you would like to see this mural in high detail please visit our Gigapan.

Lena Fransioli and Brooke Sheldon painted this masterpiece depicting a steep river valley with Nordic architecture, waterfalls & steep cliffs on the far side of the canyon, as viewed from an ornate balcony. Up river, to the right is a bridge with someone crossing on foot and a "folly" or pergola nearby.

A few photos of the installation process.

If you would like to see a short (3 min.) video of the install click here.

Nautilus Helix (NA8823)

This new design, hot off the press yesterday, was created from an image of a nautilus shell. I can’t say why this is my favorite creation in recent history. More nautilus shell designs tomorrow.

I have noticed that the #wallpaper I have been using on posts refers  to "desktop wallpapers". In the future I will be using #wallcovering or #WallpaperADay. I am a work in progress ;-)
